This Cut Out Bouquet is inspired by paper cut traditions made by artists from around the world. In Poland the paper cut tradition is called Wycinanki; and the brightly colored paper paintings are made for holidays and celebrations. The Flandreau Santee Sioux tribe of South Dakota made paper cut outs initially to serve as patterns for beadwork, quillwork and other ornaments to be applied to clothing canoes and toys.
In time the tradition became so popular it became and art form in and of itself. The Chinese paper cut tradition is called Jianzhi. These paper cuts originally were used as patterns for elaborate Chinese embroideries. Kirie is the name for the Japanese paper cut tradition. And in modern times, the tradition continued in the work of other artists who through time, also made art with scissors and paper.
Kit is made of plywood and is unpainted. Decorate with acrylic paint or markers. Dimensions 12" H x 8" W.
